Media Temple used to be a great web hosting. Cutting edge, lots of features, great price. But lately they have let things slide.

Firstly things have gotten slower over the past 6 months. Access times from the east coast are sluggish and during peak hours you can feel the pinch especially if your site hosts video like mine. Next thing is they don't even have PHP5. I know its coming but like a year late. Same with Ruby. If some newer web tech comes along later you can bet Media Temple will be the last one to launch it. Most other hosts give you way more diskspace for the price (value proposition). Again media Temple has been slow to keep up. My take is they don't have enough in house server admin knowledge and get stuck waiting for third party vendors every time something new comes along. Its like they are just reselling the Ensim control panel. My advice is to go with a host that launched Ruby on Rails 2 years ago, not planning on launching 2 months from now.

We signed up for the shared-server professional (cheapest plan, $10/month). So far I must say we are happy with the services. For the (ss) there are two controlpanels, one for billing, users, opening tickets, editing the zone-file etc. This part is very nice design, and works really well. Tickets are answered fast, although sometimes you can recive kinda strange answers:

But having worked with customer support I understand that the load can be rather huge, so this is understandable.

The webcontrol which is used to control the actual server aspects, statistics, filemanager, users, email feels very outdated, also the FAQ section I think I could have made better myself... but maybe (ss) isn't mediatemples main focus.

MT is the best host we've ever had. I don't have enough time to write down all of the postive experiences with the Media Temple. My company has used 5 other hosts [some which appear here] and they all had issues which made us leave. MT support absolutely rocks, and they are so much faster to respond. Actually amazed everytime how they are so much faster then the other messed up companies I was forced to use at our work. We rely on their SPAM filter to weed out the junk email that the other company filters would just not work, or identify client email as spammers??? The MT SPAM system just works like it should. I wish they would make the alternate domains a bit easier but its not a big deal breaker. Just happy my boss likes them too. We're staying with MT which is good because I'm tired of moving our site. I vote 10.
